And now we turn to the Moon.

I remember in the first Tarot class that I taught, we had a long long discussion about the Moon. The class was all women I think, women mostly younger than me, and many of them didn’t hold the “traditional” Tarot hesitations about the Moon card — confusion, illusion, delusion, worries.

Instead, they were plugging into Moon cycles, rhythms of life, feminine rhythms, magic, imagination, poetry, incantation. Looking to the Moon for guidance. Courageous women.

But back to the Moon. Some of the time, yes, when I see this card in readings there is self-deception afoot — either yours or theirs. And then other times, yes, this card is asking you to tune in, to go above your paranoia or your worry, to the deeper insight. Anxiety is never the last word, you know?

The Moon can be crazy thoughts, crazy visions, crazy wisdom — what OTHERS think is crazy, but to you it’s nectar. It’s truth.

The Moon is also that shadowy half-awake half-asleep dreamtime 2 a.m. feeling. Not certain of what’s real. Is that a ghost cat at the door? Or just your tshirt hanging on the doorknob? And maybe you want to find out. And maybe you don’t. The feeling is unsettling.

Now if you don’t vibe with the more spooky Moon interpretations, please know that your instincts matter. That’s one of the things the Moon teaches us! To tune in and listen.
