This news story is so astonishing it’s hard to believe the whole thing really happened.

According to Kate Wiltrout, writing for The Virginian-Pilot, the United States Navy “will not use a target depicting a Muslim woman holding a gun at a new training range for SEALs in Virginia Beach”.

A woman in a hijab? Well, OK. SEALs have probably been shot at in Iraq or Afghanistan by women wearing headdresses, so that might be a legitimate practice target (among others).

But, as they say on the television infomercials, there’s more. On the wall behind the woman’s head were verses from the Qu’ran.

What idiot in the Department of Defense thought this target was a good idea?
