Nunc Dimittis is the last of the original Christmas Carols that were sung around the time of the birth of Christ.
"Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you now dismiss your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the sight of all people, a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel." Lk 2.29-32
Words of a man who heard something from God and went on a search.
The Spirit had revealed to Simeon that he would live until he saw the Lord’s salvation. Seeing Jesus was seeing the salvation of the Lord; therefore, he raised his hands to the heavens and said, "now dismiss." (in Latin, Nunc Dimittis)
The worse thing in life is not to die but rather to die not seeing the salvation of the Lord and realizing the promises of God that the Spirit has revealed for your life.
