Jesus died on the cross for many reasons.  One of which was to set us free from sin.  Because of Christ’s work on the cross we are no longer are slaves to our sinful desires–as hard as it may be to believe we are free!

For lent we have followed Jesus into the desert with the hopes of actualizing our freedom.  Jesus fasted from food; therefore, we have gone without something.  Jesus feasted on the word of God; therefore, we have sought to fill the void with the recognition that we do not “live by bread alone but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.”

As lent comes to an end, let us build upon what we have learned from the desert.  While we are free, our flesh is a constant companion–a traitor within.
