Anyone who hears with the ears of a 1st Century Jew, regardless of what that person thought of Paul, would ask the question that opens up Romans 3: “What advantage, then, is there in being a Jew, or what value is there in circumcision?” Again, Paul surprises.

Let me begin by provoking with a question: Is Russell Moore’s proposal in chp 3 an emerging proposal? Is his proposal that there is a way beyond traditionist dispensationalism and traditionist covenant theologians a “purple” theology? Is it post-dispensational and post-covenantal? So, if Paul contends that it is not about possessing the Torah but doing the Torah, who then is the “true Jew”? Paul’s words in Romans 2:25-29, so I think, would have been heard as nothing short of shocking:
