Harry Potter’s publisher is suing a book distributor and an online bookstore, there are “spoilers” aplenty available on the Internet telling who died and how they died and when they died and the media is atwitter.
People want to know what happened and they want to know without the trouble of reading the book – some people want to know just so they can spoil the ending for people who don’t want to know. There are stories that people were walking around with t-shirts that read, “Dumbledore dies on page…” after the release of the last Potter book.
Why the interest? Why the desire for the shortcut answer?
Probably the same interest that lead Adam and Eve to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. (Gen. 3:5) They just want to know. And so they pluck and bite.
It is absolutely fascinating that in the Genesis creation story there are two trees from which Adam and Eve are told not to eat. One is the tree of knowledge; the other is the tree of life. So tempting is the tree of knowledge that they actually turn their back on the tree of life which would have made them immortal. (Gen 3:22)
Jesus knew all about this curiosity. He played off it. When he was asked a question he answered with a question or told parables – riddles of a sort. He knew of our curiosity; God knows of such things.
And so it is now with Harry Potter. People want to know how the story ends. As it was in the beginning is now and shall be forever.
