Today, we bask in the glow of our Christmas celebrations, and we are too often unaware of how our over-consumption has enabled evils, such as exploitation of workers and damage to creation.
As I watch my son play with his new toys, my mind turns to the people who made them. Are they warm and well-fed? Do they have clean air to breathe and clean water to drink? Do they have access to health care? Are they free to worship according to the dictates of their conscience?
Lord, have mercy.
