Did you know that Steven Curtis Chapman is the most-awarded artist in Christian music history? With two highly awaited tours this year, Chapman will dazzle fans around the United States with “An Evening With Steven Curtis Chapman” and the popular “Acoustic Christmas” tour.

Making Christian Music History

Chapman has earned 59 Gospel Music Association (GMA) Dove Awards, 5 GRAMMY® Awards, an American Music Award, and a historic 50 No. 1 singles. He has sold over sixteen million albums with ten RIAA-Certified® Gold or Platinum albums.

Another fun fact you might not realize is that he has collaborated with other renowned Christian music artists, including Amy Grant, CeCe Winans, Casting Crowns, Mercy Me, Tasha Cobbs Leonard, and others.

Additional collaborations permitted his songs to cross genres, including legendary singers like Glenn Campbell and Ricky Skaggs. Not to mention Gary LeVox of Rascal Flatts, Brad Paisley, Lauren Alaina, Mitchell Tenpenny, and more. Chapman became a best-selling author with his memoir Between Heaven and the Real World: My Story, published in 2017.

Chapman’s Early Years

Growing up in Paducah, Kentucky, Steven and his older brother Herb Jr. developed a passion for singing and playing the guitar under the guidance of their father, a guitar teacher and music store owner in Paducah.

After graduating from high school, Chapman intended to become a medical doctor but after several semesters and a brief transfer to Anderson College in Indiana, he dropped out. Instead, he moved to Nashville to pursue a music career. While working at an Opryland USA music show began songwriting.

His career started in the late 1980s as a singer-songwriter in contemporary Christian music and earned the most awards after releasing over 25 albums. His seven “Artist of the Year” Dove Awards marks an industry record.

Advocate of Adoption

Chapman, a vocal advocate of adoption, co-founded Show Hope in 2003 with his wife Mary Beth. The nonprofit organization focuses on restoring hope to orphans by helping them find loving families.

With a unique calling from God, Mary Beth and Steven Curtis Chapman embraced the miracle of adoption by adding three daughters from China to their family.
