Today is Day 19 of my 31 Days of Self-Love posts to celebrate Self-Love Month with suggestions for jumpstarting your own self-love.
Yesterday I wrote about RESISTANCE in my Law of Attraction in Action series. I wanted to write more about how to lower yours because it’s so critical to being able to get what you want. Every bit of resistance you get rid of is a gift of love to you!
Lowering resistance takes a conscious effort–to become aware of negative thoughts and responses to situations and to make the effort to feel as much joy as possible. I’ve been working on lowering my resistance for years. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. It’s easy to know what you have to do and hard to implement it, even for an evolved person like me.
People think that since I write about the Law of Attraction and make an effort to use it to my advantage that I have no resistance. Not true! I still forget to use my tools when I get scared at times. We all do. No one is so evolved that they can’t get blindsided by circumstances or have an area of life where manifesting is harder. Having resistance is normal. The very important factor is how you handle it. I’m excited about a valuable tool that has helped me show myself great love by helping to lower my resistance.
I’m a big fan of Esther and Jerry Hicks, who I consider the leaders in educating people about the Law of Attraction.
Esther channels Abraham, who has described themselves as “a group consciousness from the non-physical dimension.” I admit that sounded weird to me when I first heard about Abraham but after hearing great things I figured I’d try. I bought one of their CD sets, The Law of Attraction: The Basics Of The Teachings Of Abraham and listen to it every year as I do my New Year’s cleaning. Esther’s voice changes dramatically when she speaks as Abraham. I got used to it fast and took my use of the LOA to the next level. I also knew I had resistance that was holding me back.
Even when you understand where resistance comes from, lowering it can still be difficult.
Then I heard about their Getting into the Vortex book and meditation CD. Every spiritual leader recommends meditation as a prime tool for success and happiness. Sally Kemper just talked about Using Meditation to Build Self-Love on Sunday. While I know its value, I’ve never been one who could sit still with my eyes closed, taking deep breaths, for a period of time and strongly related to Elizabeth Gilbert’s painful account of her attempts to meditate that she wrote about in her book, Eat, Pry, Love. Yet I longed to do it to become more empowered. So I bought the book/CD.
A big reason that tools and knowledge don’t always work is that we don’t use them!
Getting into the Vortex sat on my table for a few weeks, unopened, as I tried to convince myself it would help me Then I had a breakthrough. While setting up my self-love website, some important things were going wrong. My web guy couldn’t figure out how to give me what I wanted, since it was unusual requests. Stress made sleep hard to get, which made me very tired. Other things began to go wrong–my negative state of mind attracted well! As I pondered how to break free of my obvious state of resistance, I remembered the book and CD sitting on my table.
Desperation can trigger action we’d otherwise have trouble taking!
I needed something fast to change my negative energy and lower my resistance to get what I needed and to feel good again. So I read the first chapter of this very short book as they ask you to do before beginning the meditation CD. There are 4 meditations–General, Prosperity, Health and Relationships. Each is just under 15 minutes long. It’s emphasized to not listen to more than one a day. Fifteen minutes is enough. They ask that you listen to one a day in order, for a week. Then you can choose the one you want in the future. So I began with the General one, sitting back comfortably and listening with headphones.
The goal of Getting into the Vortex is to help you lower resistance. The vortex is a place where you’re perfectly aligned with source energy. That’s when you get what you want.
I declared that I was doing the meditation to say “I love me.” The breathing that Abraham encourages throughout the meditation, as well as the things said, felt good to me. It’s stressed that it’s not important to pay attention to the words as they’ll sink in subconsciously. What is necessary is to breath deeply in the rhythm they create. I admit that on the first day I looked at the clock many times to see how much longer I had till it was over. Despite that, right after, some miracles happened. My low energy level picked up dramatically and I was in a good mood all day.
And a few hours after doing the meditation, everything that had been bothering me fell into place.
My web guy, bless hit heart, researched and created some codes to do exactly what I needed for my website. Other situations worked out too. It felt as if my life did a 180 to get into the opposite place from where it had been in the morning. Of course all this triggered many positive emotions, which put me into a great mood! There are many things said during the meditation about things to do and be aware of. More and more the things said are sinking in and I find myself responding to negatives in the ways they recommend. I’ll share some of those lessons in detail in upcoming posts.
One especially helpful way recommended to counter resistance is to look for things to be happy about. The happier you feel, the more positive emotions generate that become like ammo to override resistance and allow the Law of Attraction to work in your favor.
You can succumb to a current situation you don’t like or look beyond it to feel joy in the prospect of receiving. Or find the positive in what seems negative. For example, recently I did a power walk for over 2 hours. It was cold and there was intermittent light snow. When I passed a farmer’s market, I bought a gingerbread co
okie and a pint bottle of apple cider for later And, I promised myself pizza for dinner when I got home. It was a bit piggish but so what! I thoroughly enjoyed it all!
Unfortunately my tummy didn’t. As I got ready for sleep, indigestion hit me. I took something but every time I’d lay down I had to sit up. It was uncomfortable and worse than normal since I normally don’t have pizza, a cookie and 16 ounces of apple cider mid-evening. I willed my tummy to calm down but to no avail. Then I realized my thoughts were on my discomfort. From then on, every time I’d get a nasty twinge, I’d think, “my treat were so good!!” And I’d smile. Shortly after, I felt better. Focusing on the discomfort made me feel worse. Focusing on how good my yummy treats had been created positive emotions.
The more you lower resistance with joyous thoughts, the more you’re in a position to attract positives.
I decided to listen to the CD first thing each morning. The second day I only looked at the clock a few times. By day 4 I’d stopped looking. Now I enjoy it, knowing that each day this is a very loving activity for me. It’s explained that things are programmed into the CD that help dissipate resistance without doing anything but listening and breathing each day. But I do more than that! It’s wild to catch myself from responding to a situation in a way that creates resistance–without thinking. I’m happier, more expectant of great things than ever, and more in love with me.
I highly recommend trying this CD with an open mind. I never ever, ever thought I’d meditate once, no less every day. But my first time was on December 7th and I continue to listen, one day at a time, with the desire to keep it up as a regular habit, like brushing my teeth. Even when I’m rushed in the morning or want to get started with something, I wake up, have some water and put my headphones on–because I LOVE ME!!
