The intention to win power and exert influence over others betrays the one who seeks it, as such power achieved always secretly depends upon that which it has power over in order to experience itself as being powerful. Thus being dependent upon those over whom he now rules (in order to remain their ruler), requires that he continually compromise his own ideals in order to please and otherwise keep the ruled content, lest they rebel. So, instead of realizing the power and influence he set out to achieve, instead he becomes a slave of his own fear that he may lose what he could have never possessed and that, in fact, possessed him the moment he set out to win that power.
