True interior work always progresses in two directions at once because of the nature of real healing… and how the Holy Spirit acts upon the divided (self-opposing) mind.

As we persist with our wish to be free, braving what we must witness in ourselves… we will see, usually in degrees (because of the mercy of the Divine), alternating glimpses of heaven and of hell. These visions (interior glimpses of self) are natural and necessary, although greatly contested by the self that wants only glory.

Interior darkness, and the nature that hides in it, is not the enemy of the soul that aspires to Christ, to the living Light; it is the soil out of which grows the vine, and that secretly nourishes the expanding sweetness of the fruit that grows upon it.
