Calm Card #41 in The Conscious Living Wisdom Card (Special Moms’ Edition)

Today I drew the Calm Card.

What better way to end the week, then with a reminder to find ways to bring calm into our lives and into our children’s lives. After a hectic week of work, home-life, and school we can all use some calming signals. In addition to the information from The Conscious Living Wisdom Cards which you will find below, other ways to create calm include using essential oils. Oils such as lavendar, sandlewood, sweet marjoram and chamomile are all great oils to work with.

I am also reminded of my interview with Dr. Larry Rosen, author of iDisorder (Is Technology Making Your Child a Narcissist or Obsessive Compulsive?“) Dr. Rosen indicated that our brains don’t relax by simply taking a break, we need to send it new signals that encourage it to calm down. He suggests getting out into nature. I think essential oils send similar signals.

Whatever you decide to do, this cards is a sign to bring a sense of calm into both your world and your child’s.

It’s a long weekend for many of us, so take advantage of the extra day and have a calm-filled weekend!

Christine’s Insight from The Conscious Living Wisdom Cards

For You

Have you seen a duck treading water? It looks calm on the surface, but below in the water its feet are paddling like crazy. Just like that duck’s feet, there’s a voice within you that has you going around and around and around. Quieting that voice will help you find inner calm.  Whether that voice is critical, fearful, angry or restrictive, you have the choice to listen to and feed into it or not.  This voice tends to create worry, frenzy, fear or anger, all of which are toxic energies to the body, because they create an acidic environment in which disease can take hold.  Use your breath and blow these energies free from your body. Look for the thoughts that create anything but calm and set your sights on erasing these. Quiet the mind with deep breathing so you can find and create calm within.

For Your Child

It is important to demonstrate calm for our children.  They not only emulate us, but they also reflect the energies that we display.  Teach your child to quiet his* mind and his body.  A great tool for this is “smoothing the body.” Have you child raise his arms and move his hands down over the outline of his body.  As he does this, he is smoothing out his energy.  Finish by having him rest his hands in his lap.  Also, encourage quiet reading or play time.  Factors like television and the energies of your child’s surroundings will influence his ability to develop a calm nature.  If your home is hectic and chaotic, think about how you can instill calm into the environment; that might mean finding a way to organize so that mornings flow smoothly or it might mean changing nighttime routines so that there is an opportunity to wind down before bed. Remember that tools learned in childhood support your child and provide a strong base from which he can draw as he steps into his teenage and adult years.

**A note about The Conscious Living Guide Wisdom Cards (Special Moms’ Edition): There are 42 cards in the deck and a guide book. The guide book includes insight for you which is meant to help you live life more consciously as well as insight for your child, which is meant to help support you in your Conscious Parenting. *Additionally,  to avoid the awkwardness of saying he/she all the time,  I have picked one gender to identify in each card. In the ‘Calm Card’ I use the masculine.
