Consciousness Card #23 in The Conscious Living Wisdom Cards (Special Moms’ Edition)

Today I drew the Consciousness Card.

Consciousness is a state of being. It is being awake and aware of the world around you. When we are conscious we have or can gain an understanding of why our life works the way it does, what our life lessons are and with that information we can consciously learn, heal and grow, rather than learning through drama, strife and conflict.

Children are born conscious and they lose it through circumstance. Many adults don’t see or hear children. They believe they are less or somehow limited. A child’s only limits rest in their physical inabilities. They are smart, aware and connected to their own being in a way that most adults have long since lost. When we are unconscious to our children, they can lose that connection, just as we have, only to have to rebuild it when they get older.

Many of today’s children though have no desire to lose that connection. If the adults in their world will not see them as conscious beings, the children push back with anger and resentment.

When we step into Conscious Parenting, we honor the consciousness of our children and we remain open to rekindling our own awareness.

See and hear your child, don’t miss one of the most precious gifts of being a parent. Children are amazing.

Here is my text from The Conscious Living Wisdom Cards (Special Moms’ Edition) for additional support. Do you have your deck yet?

For You

Consciousness pertains to how you walk through the world – with awareness or without it. When we live unconsciously, we have no concept of or don’t care about how our actions affect others or the world.  Think of the person who carelessly throws trash on the ground, with no concern for the environment or thought as to the aesthetic enjoyment of others who experience this place, now strewn with litter. When we live consciously, we take into consideration our impact on the world as well as the world’s impact on us.  Consciousness is a piece of our spiritual evolution. It is a state of being that is active, but requires nothing of us, other than our awareness.  If you’ve drawn this card, where in your life can you live with greater consciousness?  Look at the words you use; do they empower and encourage?  Look at the information you hear and read; is it truthful or meant to manipulate and control you energetically?  Look at the food you eat; does it support your health and wellness?  There are so many aspects of existence where we can to step into conscious living. Look at everything in your life with these questions: Does this serve me? Does this support me? Does this empower me?

For Your Child

An unconscious child has no idea how her actions impact another person.  A conscious child has a great understanding of how her actions affect others and may even go beyond this to perceive suffering in animals and people who are homeless or abused, for example. If you’ve drawn this card for your child, consider which level reflects your child’s state of being.  If she is unconscious, help her develop a greater awareness of those around her.  Encourage your child to see things from other points of view.  With that goal in mind, create projects like baking for a homeless shelter, raising money for a cause or volunteering to clean up a local park.  If your child is aware, she will be conscious of how she is different from others and possibly even self-conscious about it.  Encourage her to view her differences as a gift, to focus on what is great about herself and to explore and celebrate her unique abilities and interests. Help her to set realistic goals about where and how she can make a difference in the world. An aware child is often a sensitive child and requires tools to manage being sensitive, which can include imagining a bubble into which she can release frustration and sadness as well as learning to connect herself to the earth to create a sense of grounding.

**A note about The Conscious Living Guide Wisdom Cards (Special Moms’ Edition): There are 42 cards in the deck and a guide book. The guide book includes insight for you which is meant to help you live life more consciously as well as insight for your child, which is meant to help support you in your Conscious Parenting. *Additionally, to avoid the awkwardness of saying he/she all the time, I have picked one gender to identify in each card.
