What are the movies that I have already covered on Life at the Movies, coming to DVD this September in the USA/Canada?
Already here is Italy’s Tale of Tales (2015) which I covered on Life at the Movies earlier this year.
This is an interesting tale, but it may be off-putting. It’s got nudity and sexual content and references, some violence and a tone of horror.
But it’s also interesting, humorous and at times fascinating.
For what I wrote about Tale of Tales, here:
Tale of Tales was released to DVD on September 6, 2016.
The third installment of Captain America is here on September 13, 2016. Captain America: Civil War (2016, USA) starts off with a bang, but fizzles in the middle (though there is a much appraised action sequence involving many superheroes). It is unusually thoughtful near the end. For my thoughts on its themes, here: Captain America Part III
With sports still on people’s minds with the Paralympics and where ever we point a television remote, the story of one of the masterful players of soccer, Pele, is coming to DVD on September 20.
Pele: Birth of a Legend (2016, USA) is still an uplifting story despite its shortcomings. It looks a little cheap on DVD, but it does have some legendary moments, such as soccer moves out of this world. Vincent D’Onofrio as the Brazilan coach is gritty and beleivable. The triumph over adversity is also a great theme. For more of my thoughts, here: Story of Pele
