Barry,
You? One of “Satan’s imps” ??? No way. More like a….witty, fearless – yet misguided – member of the Religious Left.
Barry, no one is trying to redefine those precious terms of “liberty” and “freedom.” Why is it when conservative Americans step forward and express concerns about the direction the country is taking – demanding more family-friendly and pro-life policies – there’s a rush by you and others to marginalize their concerns?
The truth is most Americans don’t agree with President Obama or his policies. And nearly half of the country disapproves with the way he is handling his responsibilities at the White House.
Even President Obama is having trouble keeping the support of his Democratic base. In his new book, Bob Woodward documents how the President views the war in Afghanistan and said the President decided to set a timetable for withdrawing troops from Afghanistan because, he said, “I can’t lose the whole Democratic Party.”
And, at a recent town hall meeting, President Obama got an earful from a young woman, a supporter, who said she has had enough. Velma Hart was brutally honest: “I’m exhausted of defending you, defending your administration, defending the mantle of change that I voted for, and deeply disappointed with where we are right now.”
Velma Hart is not the only person who is deeply disappointed with where we are right now. That is exactly why there is such a call to action this political season; social conservatives, Tea Party supporters, and many others who don’t neatly fit into a political category want change.
While there are many issues, here’s a couple worth noting. Most Americans believe the President’s health care plan, which is being challenged by us and others on constitutional grounds, fails the nation.
And, the President’s attack on Arizona’s immigration law – a sound measure to protect that state’s borders and citizens – has gone from the U.S. Courts to the United Nations. I guess the President isn’t satisfied with a legal challenge that will be heard by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in November – a case where we represent members of Congress in defending the AZ law.
No, the President has made this an international assault against AZ. In what can only be described as an unprecedented move, President Obama’s Department of State listed the AZ law as an example of human rights violations in this country – a report that was filed with the U.N. Human Rights Council, which harbors some of the world’s most blatant human rights offenders.
There’s a lot of angst and anxiety in this country right now. I know you want to blame conservative Christians for that. With the election fast approaching, it’s my guess the chorus for change will grow louder – and it won’t only be Christian conservatives who sound the alarm.
