My husband’s cousin is visiting from India and the topic of
what I do always seems to get some good conversations and questions rolling.  Believe me, I know it’s not because of me.  It’s because the concept of being healthy
makes everyone reflect on their own personal performance and curious about what
they could be doing to get some more health in their day to day life.  Our messenger from a faraway place was very
quick to point out that women are being diagnosed with breast cancer in their
30s and acquaintances dying from heart attacks in their 40s.  He was shocked… but not really.  I asked him why he thought this was
happening.  “Because people don’t walk
anymore; they eat too much; and they work long hours,” he quickly
surmised.  He, like most patients and
people I know, must constantly get clues that what they eat, how they don’t
exercise and how they don’t rest affects their bodies and minds every day.  There is no way we are surrounded by all this
disease (heart disease and cancer being the biggie categories) and don’t know
why it’s happening.  There are some that
continue to live in denial so that they can continue to operate in the fantasy
land of their unhealthy habits, but I guarantee Reality keeps knocking on their
door.  They just refuse to exit their ‘dreams’
and accept what symptoms and diseases are treatable and preventable by changing
their lifestyle. 

Happily, our family member accepts his part in his health
status (or lack of health state) and has requested a ‘prescription’ for what he
can do to make meaningful change in his prognosis.  I will keep you updated on his progress to
see how I might be able to help him long distance.  Wish me (and more importantly him) luck!
