I was excited to see the release of this new book from Wisdom Publications. It is edited by Josh Bartok who edited my first book, Wild Chickens and Petty Tyrants: 108 Metaphors for Mindfulness.

I was looking forward to it as a source for daily inspiration for my practice and writing my blog. I was eager to get and thought about downloading the electronic version but I am glad that I waited for the book. Like all Wisdom books, it is lovely to handle. It’s a thick volume with 365 entries selected from other Wisdom books.

I was pleased and surprised to see that Wild Chickens and Petty Tyrants has five excerpts in the book! I am proud to be in such august company.

My first entry is number 59:

Mindfulness practice helps us to see all the productions of the self, layer by layer–and helps us to not identify with any of the selves as the “final word” on who we are. Practice helps us to see the ephemeral, changing nature of self and to appreciate the process of change itself.–Arnie Kozak, Wild Chickens and Petty Tyrants

This book is a staple for your nightstand. I quick read every evening, morning, or whenever, can help to inspire, guide, and connect you with the rich wisdom tradition that Buddhist writers offer. Here is the publishers description:

Daily Doses of Wisdom draws on the richness of Buddhist writings to offer a spiritual cornucopia that will illuminate and inspire day after day, year after year. Sources span a spectrum from ancient sages to modern teachers, from monks to laypeople, from East to West, from poetry to prose. Each page, and each new day, reveals another gem carefully selected from the entire list of titles published by the world’s leading publisher of Buddhist books, Wisdom Publications.

Getting this book is like having a new friend. We will spend time together every day, or nearly so. We will have intimate conversations about important topics like the nature of self, and I will grow in the process: learning, deepening, and breathing.
