Sunday night I received an animal rescue call. A calico cat gave birth to a kitten in a woman’s flower garden. The woman moved her under the house where she had two more kittens. By the time I settled her safely in my son’s closet, she was ready to have her fourth. Mama is named after a main character in Josiah’s favorite book series, The Warriors, but two of the four kittens were named after sandwich condiments (Pickles and Olive)by my creative daughters, age nine and seven. The only boy is named Smudge. Mama and kittens are all doing well and everyone is putting on weight and receiving much love and care.
The fascinating part of this story for me, though, is “the rest of the story”….
I’m the Mom so I’m the one who heard my daughter say about 124 times (no, that is not an exaggeration) within the last month, “Oh, MOM….if only we could have KITTENS!” I couldn’t figure out how that was going to happen since we’re “responsible pet owners” and all eight cats are spayed or neutered (Bob Barker is proud!). Also, on numerous other occasions, Josiah had privately explained to me that he would really like to have a cat find refuge in his quiet room. So, to me, this is not a birth story…this is a wishes coming true story. I love those kind of stories!
