Actor Chris Pratt honored the lives of those killed during the Sept. 11 attacks, posting a powerful message to social media and participating in the Waves of Flags Ceremony at Pepperdine University.

The “Jurassic World” star wrote on Instagram, “Let’s take a moment to remember and honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001. It’s a day that changed our world forever, but it also showed us the strength and resilience that define the American spirit.” Pratt encouraged people to remember 9/11 heroes, explicitly the firefighters, police, first responders, and others who “risked everything to help their fellow citizens.”

The actor added, “Their courage and selflessness continue to inspire us all.” Pratt said he had the honor of planting the last flag during the Waves of Flags ceremony and explained the significance of the banners displayed during the 22nd-anniversary event. He said, “Each flag represents an innocent life lost on that day, including a national flag for each foreign country that lost a citizen in the attack.”

The Waves of Flags Ceremony has become a Pepperdine tradition, with nearly 3,000 flags placed each September in the college’s Alumni Park. Pratt concluded his post by encouraging his fans to also “pay tribute” to families whose lives were impacted and upended by the attacks. He called their strength “a testament to the unbreakable bonds of love.”
