Former president Donald Trump called on the faith of his constituents while speaking at the Faith & Freedom Coalition’s Road to Majority conference in Washington, DC. “As you know, the radical left is trying to shame Christians, silence you, demoralize you, and they want to keep you out of politics. They don’t want you to vote. That’s why you have to vote. If Joe Biden gets back in, Christianity will not be safe,” Trump said. “In a nation with no borders, no laws, no freedom, no future. Not going to be safe. You’re not going to be safe as a person, and your religion certainly will be, I think, in tatters.” He warned his listeners that they might even be arrested for their religious beliefs.

He addressed believers who have urged him to take a stricter stance on a federal abortion ban. He has often touted the overturning of Roe v. Wade as one of his presidential accomplishments but has been less hawkish on an outright ban. He stated he supports abortion exceptions in certain cases, such as in the cases of rape, incest, and danger to the life of the mother. “I think most people do, actually, but some people don’t. You have to go with your heart, but you have to also remember, you have to get elected,” he said.

He warned that the Biden administration would continue to target Christians because, “they know that our allegiance is not to them, our allegiance is to our country and our allegiance is to our Creator. We do not answer to the bureaucrats in Washington; we answer to God in Heaven.” He also referenced the arrest of Paulette Harlow, a 75-year-old pro-life activist who was arrested while protesting outside an abortion clinic. Her supporters insist that she was arrested for singing outside the clinic while prosecutors insist it was because she was blocking access to the clinic. She was sentenced to 24 months in prison in May.

Trump also cheered the recently passed Louisiana legislation that mandates the Ten Commandments being displayed in public schools. “Who likes the Ten Commandments, by the way, going up in the schools?” he asked. “Has anyone read the ‘Thou shalt not steal’? I mean, has anybody read this incredible stuff? It’s just incredible They don’t want it to go up. It’s a crazy world.”
