As President Biden commits some of his last acts as president, one of his recipients for the Presidential Medal of Freedom has received extra criticism. “President Biden’s decision to award George Soros the Medal of Freedom is a slap in the face to the citizens and crime victims suffering under the policies and politicians he has promoted,” said Zack Smith, legal fellow of the Heritage Foundation. “Soros has been a major donor to far-left politicians and has promoted policies that undermine the rule of law in our country. Given Biden’s embrace of these policies and the funding Soros has provided, this looks like nothing more than an effort to reward and keep happy one of the Left’s major donors (and his family). It cheapens what should be a prestigious award and gives everyday Americans yet another reason to be disgusted by the current Administration’s actions,” he added.
Soros has remained a lightning rod of controversy amongst conservatives, with many painting Soros as a nefarious figure behind Democrat policy decisions. Others have accused Soros-backed prosecutors of releasing dangerous criminals on the street. A 2024 report from the Law Enforcement Legal Defense Fund revealed that Soros has spent more than $40 million to elect district attorney candidates across the US. Senator Tom Cotton called the decision, “outrageous but not surprising.” “Democratic politicians support criminals more than cops. They want violent criminals back on the streets. If you want less crime: vote Republican,” he wrote.
“George Soros is responsible for the breakdown of American society. His goal is the destruction of the West,” wrote Marina Medvin. “He supports illegal immigrants, Antifa, Palestinian terror enthusiasts, campus disrupters, etc. Of course this is all wonderful in Biden’s world. So he’s giving Soros the highest civilian honor.” The White House stated Soros was receiving the award as recognition for his years of philanthropy. Soros’s son, Alex, accepted the award on his father’s behalf. Other recipients of that received raised eyebrows included Liz Cheney and Hilary Clinton. Former Trump advisor Steve Bannon recommended President-elect Trump have an exorcism at the White House. ‘“The first thing President Trump should do now, given what Biden’s doing today with Soros and [former Secretary of State and first lady Hillary] Clinton, is we should have an exorcism,” he said. “Let’s have an exorcism. You got to drive the demons out, the demon spirit of George Soros.”
