The family of Martin “Tiger” Bech, a former Princeton University football star tragically killed in the New Orleans terror attack on New Year’s Day, is leaning on their faith in Jesus to navigate an unimaginable loss. Tiger’s aunt, Cheri Bech, shared a powerful testimony of forgiveness and unwavering faith during an interview on Fox & Friends First.

“God is so present,” Cheri said, reflecting on how faith has been a cornerstone for their family during this heartbreaking time.

Tiger, 27, was among 14 victims killed when a truck driver deliberately plowed into crowds on Canal and Bourbon Street early on January 1. The Ivy League athlete had returned to Louisiana for a weekend of fishing and hunting with friends when the tragedy struck.

Cheri recounted a moment of profound faith and grace shortly after the family received the devastating news. As she and her daughters sat at the dinner table, one of her daughters spoke words that have since anchored their journey: “Mom, you know, someone killed my cousin. And I forgive him.”

“It’s through our faith in Jesus that we’re able to forgive such a heinous act of crime against just innocent people,” Cheri shared.

The Bech family’s response of forgiveness stands as a testament to their deep reliance on God. Cheri described how a specific Bible verse, Isaiah 41:10, has been a source of comfort and strength during this time:

“Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.”

Known for his love of family, Tiger was a devoted brother, son, and cousin. Despite a demanding career in New York City, he consistently made time to support his younger brother Jack’s football journey. Cheri recounted Tiger’s commitment to his brother, saying he would work long hours during the week and take late-night flights home to ensure he was present for Jack’s games.

“Jack knows that Tiger’s presence will be there with him [at the draft],” Cheri said. “We’re all firm believers in Jesus, and we’re just holding Jesus’ hand as we go through this difficult journey.”

Jack, a standout player at TCU preparing for the 2025 NFL Draft, shared a heartfelt message on social media after his brother’s passing: “Love you always, brother! You inspired me every day. Now you get to be with me in every moment.”

Even in their grief, the Bech family has extended prayers and compassion to the families of other victims. “I want everybody to know that all the Bechs are praying for all of the other victims’ families,” Cheri said. “It’s a difficult road, but together we can all get through it.”

Cheri’s message of hope underscores the profound role faith has played in their journey. “God keeps showing up in such remarkable ways,” she said, adding that their trust in Jesus has given them the strength to endure and forgive.

As the Bech family mourns the loss of their beloved Tiger, they are clinging to the promises of scripture and the presence of Christ. The Bechs continue to inspire others with their testimony, pointing to God as the source of their strength and hope. As Cheri shared, “We are just holding Jesus’ hand as we go through this difficult journey.”
