Seventeen faith leaders joined President Trump in the Oval Office to surround him in prayer. In a picture shared on social media, the president can be seen surrounded by the group, which consisted of President Trump’s head of the faith office, Paula White; Robert Jeffress, pastor of First Baptist Church of Dallas; Jim Garlow, a former San Diego pastor; William Wolfe, head of the Center for Baptist Leadership; Gary Bauer, founder of Family Research Council; David Barton, a historian,Jenny Korn, also a leader in the White House faith office; Travis Johnson, pastor of Pathway Church in Mobile, Ala.; Owen Strachan, senior director of the Dobson Culture Center; Samuel Rodriguez, president of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference; Brad Knight, pastor of StoryLife Church in Apopka, FL, and Jeff Schwarzentraub, pastor of BRAVE Church in Englewood, CO.

Rodriguez described the contents of his prayer to The Christian Post, reciting, “With gratitude and humility, we pray for President Trump. You assigned him, you appointed him, you anointed him for such a time as this. We ask You to cover him with the blood of Jesus, empowering him to advance an agenda of righteousness and justice, truth and love. Protect him from all evil as he undergirds our nation with the firewall of our Judeo-Christian value system. Fulfill Your purpose in his life,” he said. He also prayed for the president’s protection, ending with a hope of, “the fulfillment of Isaiah 58:8: Salvation will come like the dawn. Wounds will quickly heal. Godliness will lead us forward as the glory of God will protect us from behind.”

William Wolfe remarked on being in the Oval Office, calling it an “honor.” “It was a huge honor to represent @BaptistLeaders and meet @realDonaldTrump today along with other Christian leaders and pray for him in the Oval Office. It’s been an incredible day—been keeping this under wraps until it happened, but can’t wait to share more!!” he wrote. Gary Bauer wrote that the group had been invited to speak to the White House Faith Office prior to meeting the president to make policy recommendations. “The attendees at the meeting brought dozens of ideas the administration could pursue to promote faith, family, and freedom. I am not able to go into details, but I can tell you that you will be incredibly happy as President Trump rolls out initiatives in the months ahead,” Bauer wrote in a blog. He said meeting with the president in the Oval Office came “unexpectedly.” “The conversation was fascinating. But, most importantly, the chance to pray with him and for him was a great blessing for all of us,” he added. He called the experience “a priceless opportunity to come along the side of the president and to encourage him and many of our brothers and sisters in Christ currently serving in the Trump/Vance administration.”
