WASHINGTON, Mar 5, 2008 (UPI via COMTEX) — Investigators infiltrated a technologically advanced child pornography ring that resulted in the arrest of 14 U.S. citizens, justice officials said.
Officials with the FBI and Justice Department described the ring as a “vast child-exploitation enterprise” that distributed lewd images of children and toddlers having sex, CNN said Wednesday.
Justice officials said the suspects distributed more than 400,000 pictures and movies using advanced encryption technology to mask their activity.
A law enforcement official infiltrated the group. Justice Department officials said the enterprise distributed and sold the material for two years.
The suspects face a variety of charges ranging from obstruction of justice to operating a child-exploitation ring. The maximum sentence imposed for such crimes is 20 years to life.
