Last night brought us the season premiere of the internationally beloved BBC science fiction series Doctor Who (if you didn’t see my blog entry about the astrology of Doctor Who, click HERE). The show is about an eccentric alien who occasionally cheats death by physically regenerating… a process which changes his physical appearance and personality. As you can imagine, this is a particularly useful stunt when it comes to keeping a show with a lead character going for over half-a-century as Doctor Who has done. This new season is unusual because the opening episode involved a major threat to someone’s world.
That’s not at all unusual for Doctor Who, but in this case the world that was threatened was the small subset of The World of Science Fiction Fanboys who simply cannot wrap their head around the concept of The Doctor being a woman: specifically, Jodi Whittaker (whom I was a fan of before it was announced she’d be taking over the role, by the way).
Part of the charm of Doctor Who is that, although it remains consistent to its formula, regeneration tends to put a new spin on the nature and tone of the show. but no matter how The Doctor changes in appearance or personality, he or now she consistently remains a champion of what is good and right throughout all of time and space. the Doctor is a hero, but not the kind of hero who gets results with a gun or a sword. The Doctor is all about the brain and the spirit. The Doctor is the one person who knows how to save your planet from an alien robot invasion.
And now, just maybe, The Doctor is going to help save us from one of our oldest and most dire enemies as a species: sexism.

In astrology, Mars may represent revolution, but in and of itself it isn’t enough to make a revolution happen. Not even when Mars is in Aquarius as it is now, even though few Signs love a good revolution as much as Aquarius does.
Having said that: it certainly does seem like some sort of a major change is required here, have you noticed?
Well, of course you have. You haven’t been hiding under a rock the last year or so, have you?
As hard as I struggle to not comment on politics in this blog, there’s stuff going on now that is simply too big to ignore. If you saw my previous blog entry, you know exactly what I’m talking about. I have wanted to say something more about this but have not been able to find the words.
…Not until the season premiere of Doctor Who, that is. So: The Doctor and I have a question for you…
“We’re all capable of the most incredible change. We can evolve, whilst still staying true to who we are. We can honor who we’ve been, and choose who we want to be next – now’s your chance. How about it?”
