When I’m doing a reading for a client and I see a stressful transit happening, I often look at when the last time that transit was in effect as a sort of baseline. I’ll ask the client something along the lines of “has your marriage been under particular stress since about the beginning of the year?” or “was work going particularly well last August?”
(You’d be surprised how often it’s hard to come up with an immediate answer to these things. As I often joke “I don’t remember what I had for lunch yesterday, let alone what happened last August.”)
Life often repeats itself, but never exactly in every detail. Likewise, you can experience the same transit in your life more than once, but the other transits happening at the time will be different. One Saturn square might lead to a broken leg, and the next one might lead to a broken heart. Nonetheless, when looking at your future transits, it can be instructive to look at when the same or similar transits were happening in your life.
If you are currently feeling the pinch from the Saturn-Pluto conjunction, and if you are old enough, think back to the 80s… specifically, 1981 to 1984.
The last Saturn-Pluto conjunction was in November of 1982, at 27 degrees Libra. And as I’ve been saying recently, any placements in your chart between about 17 and 25 degrees of the Cardinal Signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, or Capricorn) will be feeling the effects of the upcoming conjunction.
Here is what else was happening with those degrees back in the early 80s:
-Saturn was square the critical degrees it has been conjuncting in the last two year (but in Libra) from September 1981 to September 1982.
-Likewise, Pluto was doing the same from January 1978 to November 1981, and again April to September 1982. Boy, Pluto sure is slow, isn’t it?
So: think back to those time periods in your life. What went wrong? What went right?
Again, the same exact circumstances will not occur in exactly the same way. For example, that stretch of time did some particularly brutal things to my Moon and my Mars — but the exact conjunction was also in a close trine to my natal Jupiter. So: win some, lose some. And, worst case scenario? At least now (in theory) you are a lot older and wiser than you were back then. That counts for something, doesn’t it?
