You can’t choose your child’s exact birth chart, but you can choose the “birth chart” of a marriage. It can’t guarantee success (that’s still up to you and your partner), but it can certainly get things off to a good start, and does seem to have a lasting effect after everyone leaves the reception. I recently had a client ask me about this. Play along at home and see how it’s done!

(Wondering what the next few months hold in store for you? Write me with your date, time, and place of birth — and I’ll send you a free sneak preview!)

Keep in mind that there is no such thing as a perfect birth chart. Sorry Lou Reed, there’s no “perfect day,” regardless of who you spent it with. But some dates and times are definitely better than others, and that’s true with weddings.

The client has the choice of a Saturday in late October or November 2020, in Tairua, New Zealand (congratulations on getting rid of COVID-19 there, by the way). Furthermore, the ceremony will take place somewhere in between 5 and 6 PM. For all of these charts I have selected 5:30 PM, but I’ll come back to the subject of the exact time later. That’s important too.

One of the golden rules of a successful marriage chart is “keep the malefics off the angles.” Since this wedding will be happening with a Jupiter Saturn Pluto conjunction, sorting that out is a little easier than usual. The October 24th chart has those free planets in the 10th house. Normally having Jupiter in the 10th for a wedding ceremony would be good news, but Saturn and Pluto will probably mess that up. Saturn and Pluto getting a square from transiting Mars in the First House doesn’t help either. So forget the 24th.

As much fun as a Halloween wedding might sound like, the same situation invalidates the October 31st wedding date. That, plus Mars on the Ascendant and the Moon approaching a conjunction to Uranus? That’s too risky for my tastes.

Things improve towards the end of November. The November 21st wedding chart still has Saturn and Pluto in the 10th house, if one goes by Whole Sign Houses like I do. But the Moon placement at 17 Aquarius is a bit… awkward. It’s not making any major aspects other than a square to Mercury, and I don’t like how that feels.

The best of the date range I can find is actually November 28th. Remember that the Saturn Pluto conjunction has to go somewhere or other, but get this: on the November 28th date Jupiter Saturn and Pluto will be in the local Ninth house. The Ninth House rules ceremonies, and Jupiter is the natural ruler of marriage partnerships. So what we have here is basically “both Jupiter and the ruler of the Ninth House are in the Ninth House, which rules marriage ceremonies.” Furthermore, Venus, the natural ruler of love and affection, will be within conjunction range of the Descendant. don’t believe all the hype you heard about Venus in Scorpio being a terrible placement, especially when its ruler is in the Ninth House and we’re talking about a marriage.

And yes, I noticed the Venus-Uranus opposition, with both in angular houses. Like I said, there are no perfect days. However, this chart places Venus (ruling the First House) on the Descendant, the ruler of Venus is conjunct Jupiter in the 9th House, and Uranus rules the Midheaven. Not bad at all, really.

Fortunately, none of the potential dates and times has a Void of Course Moon, so that’s one less thing to worry about.

Now, let’s talk a little more about the exact timing involved in the chart of a wedding ceremony — the actual time of birth is when the first person says “I do,” or the equivalent thereof. This is going to take a little finesse, and I’m going to have to write this client back and ask a few additional questions. In part this is because (although I am a complete slob about how I run my life) I’m a lot more meticulous with my clients.

So, last word: try to time the ceremony so that the first “I do” lands as close to 5:30 as possible. Any later and it moves Uranus close to the Ascendant. And the Moon will be Void of Course that morning, so get as much linied up and confirmed the night before. Having said that? Congratulations!
