Mars is never the big star of the astrological year, but it often serves as a trigger for the events being set up by the larger and “heavier” transits. And as we all learned from six freakin’ months of Mars in Aries… we ignore Mars at our peril.
Here’s a list of all the major Mars events of 2021. Dates listed for aspects between Mars and other planets are for when that aspect is exact, but add about a week either side for when it’s in effect. I’ve listed the exact degree placement for each of the major Mars aspects this year — so if you know your chart, that will give you a better idea as to when you can take advantage of that transit (or a better idea of when to duck).
(No matter what transits are happening, how they play out in your life depends on your individual birth chart. Write me with your date, time, and place of birth — and I’ll send you a copy and a free sneak preview!)
JANUARY 6TH, 2021: MARS ENTERS TAURUS
This Sign is usually considered to be an awkward place for Mars to be. Taurus is generally considered to be “more of a lover than a fighter,” but if you’ve ever seen a bull go on the rampage, you know you don’t want to be standing in front of it.
January 13: Mars (at 3 degrees Taurus) square Saturn
January 20: Mars (at 6 degrees Taurus) conjunct Uranus
January 23: Mars (at 8 degrees Taurus) square Jupiter
Mars spends the first third of its time in Taurus this year agitated and looking for a fight…
February 13: Mars (at 19 degrees Taurus) sextile Neptune
February 24: Mars (at 25 degrees Taurus) trine Pluto
…then manages to settle down and find more constructive outlets.
MARCH 3, 2021: MARS ENTERS GEMINI
It might be too much of a cliche to say that Mars in Gemini is prone to outbursts of verbal hostility — but cliches sometimes come from a place of Truth.
MARCH 21 – MAY 24, 2021: MARS OUT OF BOUNDS
A planet is “out of bounds” when it move either North or South on the Ecliptic and goes past 23 degrees 27 minutes in declination. Too technical for you? Okay: picture one of those cheesy old ads on TV for those “Girls Gone Wild” videos — except it’s not college girl wet t-shirt shenanigans. It’s you standing on your front lawn in a bath robe at 3 AM shouting at the neighbors to keep the noise down. That’s “Mars out of bounds.” Watch your temper, and watch where your sex drive is pointed.
March 23: Mars (at 19 degrees Gemini) trine Saturn
Finally, something constructive!
April 9: Mars (at 21 degrees Gemini) square Neptune
…And there’s you yelling at the neighbors in you bath robe at 3 AM — except you’re yelling at the wrong neighbors, the noise continues, and now you have to raise bail money.
April 17: Mars (at 26 degrees Gemini) trine Jupiter
A good time to make progress on a good cause.
APRIL 23, 2021: MARS ENTERS CANCER
This placement has an even worse reputation for moodiness and martial malfunction than Mars in Taurus has. Good thing it’s getting (mostly) easy aspects this year!
May 11: Mars (at 11 degrees Cancer) sextile Uranus
May 31: Mars (at 23 degrees Cancer) trine Neptune
A great time to access that Outer Planet power and get things done!
June 5: Mars (at 26 degrees Cancer) opposite Pluto
…And yet there you are, yelling at the neighbors again…
JUNE 11, 2021: MARS ENTERS LEO
Do you like drama? Think the conflicts on the average telenovela aren’t overblown enough? Well then you’re going to love Mars in Leo 2021!
July 1: Mars (at 12 degrees Leo) square Saturn
Ouch!
July 3: Mars (at 13 degrees Leo) square Uranus
Aaaaiiieeee!
July 29: Mars (at 29 degrees Leo) opposite Jupiter
Boom!
JULY 29, 2021: MARS ENTERS VIRGO
Mars in the (usually) caring and kind Sign of Virgo gets to do (mostly) caring and kind things to do with its energy this year.
August 22: Mars (at 14 degrees Virgo) trine Uranus
September 2: Mars (at 22 degrees Virgo) opposite Neptune
SEPTEMBER 14, 2021: MARS ENTERS LIBRA
Yet another “debilitated” Mars placement that actually works out well more often than not.
October 18: Mars (at 22 degrees Libra) trine Jupiter
October 22: Mars (at 24 degrees Libra) square Pluto
OCTOBER 30, 2021: MARS ENTERS SCORPIO
A strong placement, mostly well-aspected this year. Mostly. Watch that Saturn square!
November 10: Mars (at 9 degrees Scorpio) square Saturn
November 17: Mars (at 12 degrees Scorpio) opposite Uranus
November 29: Mars (at 20 degrees Scorpio) trine Neptune
December 6: Mars (at 23 degrees Scorpio) sextile Pluto
DECEMBER 13, 2021: MARS ENTERS SAGITTARIUS
Mars in Sagittarius has a reputation for being fun and freewheeling, but perhaps a little reckless. Since this year The ruling planet of Sagittarius (Jupiter) is in Aquarius but then enters Pisces on December 28th, though? The “fun and freewheeling” might get a bit weird and out of hand…
December 29: Mars (at 11 degrees Sagittarius) sextile Saturn
