Professional golfer Tiger Woods (born December 30 1975, 10:50 PM, Cypress, Callifornia) was in a single vehicle accident this morning, requiring him to be removed from the wreck of his car by the so-called “jaws of life.” He was rushed to hospital in serious condition with compound fractures to his legs. He is expected to recover.

As is usually the case, the transits at the time tell an interesting story. And, as was the case with Demi Lovato, there is at least one allegedly pleasant transit that contributed to disaster.

(No matter what transits are happening, how they play out in your life depends on your individual birth chart. Write me with your date, time, and place of birth — and I’ll send you a copy and a free sneak preview!)

Vehicles and short trips are generally ruled by the Third House of the birth chart. Tiger has Venus, Uranus, and the North Node in his Third House. Uranus in particular can lead to impulsive behaviours, and this is the third time he has had legal problems around driving. In May 2017 he was arrested on a DUI charge, and in 2009 he drove his SUV over a fire hydrant and hit a tree outside of his home.

The modern ruler of his Third House is Pluto, and his Pluto is in a mutual reception with his Venus in Scorpio in the Third House. Two planets involved in a mutual reception can strengthen and amplify each other, and not always for the best possible effect. Furthermore, the ruler of the Third House in in the House behind it “the Twelfth House of the House it rules). This can make for a sort of “blind spot” around the issues related to the House in question.

The traditional ruler of his Third House is Mars. Tiger has Mars in Gemini in the 10th House. By annual profections, Tiger is now in a Tenth House year, which we would normally associate with career. However, because his Mars is in his Tenth House, it is also being activated. This could further contribute to any impulsiveness.

Finally, it’s worth noting that Neptune was exactly conjunct the local Ascendant in Pisces, getting a close trine from the Moon in Cancer. The Washington Post reports that the accident happened at 7:12 AM local time). Normally this would be a combination for a pleasantly dreamy time… but “pleasantly dreamy” is not a condition you want to be in when you’re speeding along in a sports car.

I wish Tiger the best, and would urge him to remain cautious around speeding and dangerous activities. Being in a Mars year can bring these things to the forefront, especially when you have a Mars-Neptune opposition like Tiger does, and your natal Mars is being boosted by a sextile from natal Jupiter, and might not always be as cautious as you should be.
