Also known as: The House Of Value. The House of Money.
What it rules in your life:
The Second House is usually the first place we look when it comes to your money situation. There are separate rulers for money made specifically from inheritances or investments or your work, but the Second House is the general ruler of all your cash and material possessions.
The Second House also has a lot to do with your sense of self-worth. Although that’s a complicated subject , have you noticed that it’s easier to feel good about yourself when you got more in your bank account? Yet: have you noticed that some well-adjusted people are not the least bit materialistic?
(No matter what transits are happening, how they play out in your life depends on your individual birth chart. Write me with your date, time, and place of birth — and I’ll send you a copy and a free sneak preview!)
What it rules in an organization or mundane chart: Liquid assets, the petty cash drawer, overall capacity for making money.
How the placement of the ruler affects it:
Ruler of the Second House in the First House could indicate that you really show (deliberately or not) how you’re feeling about yourself. You probably like to dress well (unless, again, you’re being down on yourself). You may make a living off of your physical appearance or presentation.
When the ruler of the Second House is in the Second House, it puts special emphasis on money and possessions. Handled well, it could mean you’re always making a buck somehow. Handled less well and it could turn you into a hoarder.
If the ruler of the Second House is in the Third House? It might make for a “mind on my money and my money on my mind” kind of attitude. You may also end up have some kind of financial or esteem issues with your siblings. You might do well at a job that requires writing and/or talking a lot.
When the ruler of the Second House is in the Fourth House, you may find that your security issues can be resolved by having a happy and comfortable living space. Even if you can’t afford it, you may window shop online for a lot of things like furniture or home appliances. For better or worse, you may have security issues that originated with one of your parents (probably Mom)
Ruler of the Second House in the Fifth House often means that you can make money off of creative endeavors, games, or children. Even if your job is pretty mundane, you’ll be happier if you get to customize how you do it. You might also take up something like day trading as a hobby.
If the ruler of your Second House is in the Sixth House? You might end up with security issues concerning your health. You need to watch your spending habits and probably function best with a written budget. Also, you might end up spending a lot of your money on things like pet toys.
When the ruler of the Second House is in the Seventh House, then (for good or not) you tend to bring your financial and security issues to your closest relationships. You might make an excellent business partner or function best in that sort of arrangement. Depending on your circumstances and birth chart, you might either lose money from your relationship or (as AC/DC put it) c’mon c’mon, marry for the money!
If the ruler of your the Second House is in the Eighth House, you may benefit materially or emotionally from an interest in the occult… or from sex. There’s a possibility of some kind of inheritance here. But seriously: are you in bed with the right person for the right reasons?
When the ruler of the Second House is in the Ninth House, you probably gain a sense of security through higher learning or taking an interest in foreign travel and cultures. You’d probably make a good professor of something. Also: how do you feel about religion? And how does religion feel about you?
If the ruler of the Second House is in the Tenth House, you may have a classic case of working had for the money. You likely base a great deal of your identity on your work and career. You money habits and choice of career may have had a strong influence from one of your parents. You may feel most comfortable when you know the rules and play by them.
When the ruler of the Second House is in the Eleventh House, you probably get a personal and/or financial boost from how your circle of friends and society at large see you. You might do well as a party planner, event organizer, or working for a social cause. You often have your eye on the long-term, financially speaking.
Your Second House ruler in the Twelfth House may lead to personal security issues that can be address through spiritual practices. Whereas many people find “the paranormal” unsettling, you might actually take comfort in those things. You might make a great fund-raiser for a charity. Try to apply more logic to your finances!
Things the House rules you might not have expected: Metabolism, precious stones and crystals, your neck.
