“No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it is not the same river and he’s not the same man”
-Heraclitus

Between March and June of 2023, Pluto will dip its toe into the early degrees of Aquarius until going retrograde back into Capricorn. Like many of you, I’ve been listening to other astrologers and their commentaries on what this should bode for people and the world in general. One thing I’ve learned from all this is that making people afraid with vague prophecies based on cherry-picking the past can be good for business. A lot of this fear-mongering lately is around the subject of revolutions. You know, governments collapsing, angry mobs with pitchforks and torches, that sort of thing.

And yes, there will undoubtedly be plenty of that. But heck, Pluto is going to be in Aquarius for 20 years, and show me a 20-year stretch of history that was completely free of uprisings and pandemics, and other things we don’t like to think about. Human history is complex and lengthy enough that if one wants to spread some fear around? You can always crack open an ephemeris, then hit up Wikipedia and find out that the last time that Planet A was in Sign B forming Aspect C to Planet D — something terrible happened! So, based on an astrologer’s personal opinions, that sort of terrible thing will happen again. But those of you who know me know that I generally tend to be an optimist. After all, if you always bet against the end of the world, you’re only ever going to be wrong once… right?

Sometimes a revolution is necessary. There may not be a whole lot of monarchies out there to kick over, but there are a few entities out there who are kind of asking for it… just sayin’. But today, I would like to tell you a true life story about a peaceful revolution (starring Pluto in Aquarius) that made the world a much better place for all involved.

Even if you aren’t a historian, you’ve heard of the Vikings. And if you haven’t looked too deeply into their history, you would probably assume that they were all just rampaging barbarians. Sure, the Vikings had been that side to them, but for the most part, they were an advanced culture, with all kinds of philosophy and artwork and the kinds of things we associate with “civilization.” And you would think that with their level of success they would have been a force/menace for much longer than they were. Where did those Vikings go anyway? In the 11th century, the whole situation changed… and most of that change happened while Pluto was in Aquarius.

You see, eventually the Vikings figured out that with their superior knowledge of navigation and seamanship that instead of conquering and pillaging for a living, they could live much more rewarding lives simply by setting up trading posts. Why ransack a village once when you can simply collect money from them for things that they need over the course of years? How very Aquarian of those Vikings!

So: next time you read some fear-mongering garbage from some astrologer wanting to sell you a subscription service, keep the Vikings in mind. The only thing those astrologers need to fear about their future is the possibility that one day too many people will catch on to them, and they will have to either do their job more honestly… or maybe go get a job at IKEA.
