Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

“Gosh, Matthew, that was a really dark (yet highbrow) intro. But aren’t you always trying to talk people down off the ledge when it comes to potentially bad astrological news, rather than helping them get up there in the first place?”
That’s an excellent question. Allow me to explain…

Saturn passes through the first 13 degrees of Aquarius until May 2021. It then turns retrograde and backs up to six degrees Aquarius before turning direct again, ending the year at eleven degrees Aquarius.
This is important for two reasons. First of all, if you have any important placements in the first half of the Fixed Signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, or Aquarius), you’re going to feel this. But causing even more stress on both a personal and global level? Saturn spends much of the year in a square aspect to Uranus.
(No matter what transits are happening, how they play out in your life depends on your individual birth chart. Write me with your date, time, and place of birth — and I’ll send you a copy and a free sneak preview!)
We had an early preview of Saturn square Uranus in March of this year. I wrote about it twice, and I encourage you now to go back and read both of those again. The first blog entry is about the difficulties involved with getting anything solid and dependable done under this aspect. The second blog entry is a gentle reminder that the last time this aspect happened, the world did not exactly come to an end as had been advertised.
There is, however, a larger message that comes with Saturn square Uranus that I overlooked before — one I think we need to focus on.
You see, Saturn is all about worldly limitations. We certainly learned a thing or two about that with Saturn conjunct Pluto in Capricorn, didn’t we? Uranus, on the other hand, has an affinity for individuality and rebellion. It’s easy to see how those two forces, combined with the difficult square aspect, could make for a huge mess in 2021.
But Aquarius has a great interest in universal principles, in justice, and in creating a level playing field. Taurus is earthy, comforting, and nurturing.
So what does this all mean to me? I think it means that in 2021 we all need to learn how to get along better with others. We need to learn to make better use of the technology that we have to spread ideas and facts — and not unthinking rage and disinformation.
I think we are being given a real chance to crack that code, and we stand a chance of making the world a much better place for everyone in the long run.
Or, you know, you could go back to squabbling with everyone on Facebook and Twitter. It’s your world… and your choice.
