Listen ya’ll, you’ve got to give something up to get the teachings!
David Nichtern, who wrote “Midnight at the Oasis”, and who is also is a former student of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, stopped by the ID Project a couple of weeks ago to speak about “The Role of the Teacher on the Spiritual Path”. His 30+ years of teaching Meditation Instruction and Buddhist Philosophy provided insight into the importance of the Student/ Teacher relationship in the Mahayana tradition.
He also laid on us some great simple meditation instructions…
David Nichtern’s Meditation Instruction:
1. Take your seat
2. Place your attention to our own unmanipulated breathing.
3. When you notice that your awareness has drifted away – Label it “thinking” and bring your attention back to the breath.
