Fat Suit.jpgThere’s a new sandwich in town and it’s called the “KFC Double Down.” It features two thick meat chicken filets (fried or grilled), two pieces of bacon, two melted slices of Monterey Jack and pepper Jack cheese and the Colonel’s Sauce.
Knowledge is Power:
One of my weight loss rules is to ‘know what thy eat before thy eat it.’ Often, we look at something, like the new KFC Double Down and think, ‘hey, there’s no bread so it must be okay.’ But hey, is it? Will the KFC Double Down ultimately bring you down?
Reduce Cardiovascular Disease: The American Heart Association recommends that you choose and prepare foods with little or no salt and eat less than 1,500 mg of sodium per day. Hmmmm … this ‘sandwich’ contains just about a full day’s worth of sodium!.
Fat recommendation from Mayo Clinic: Limit total fat intake to 20 to 35 percent of your daily calories. Based on a 2,000-calorie-a-day diet, this amounts to about 44 to 78 grams of total fat a day. Emphasize fats from healthier sources, such as nuts and olive, canola and nut oils. Hmmmm … again, you’re using about 1/2 to 3/4 of your fat allowance on this ‘sandwich.’
Sandwich? I looked up the definition of sandwich and for the most part a sandwich is defined as something that has two (or more) slices of bread with a filling between them.
Keeping all that in mind, now please read the nutritional information from the KFC site and you decide … is this something you want to spend your calories, fat and sodium on? What does your body have to say about this?
