I suspect that you will find the recent findings from a survey sponsored by Nutrisystem Diet Index™ that tracks America’s diet and lifestyle behaviors, attitudes and trends fascinating, as did I.
The Nutrisystem Diet Index™ report details our ongoing obsession with weight loss and all the counterintuitive things that we are willing to give up to lose weight or willing to do to lose weight.
Here are some of the stunning findings:
Americans would prefer to shed 10 to 20 pounds this summer than get promoted at work.
66% of Americans say they need to lose weight to feel sexier than they currently feel, and think that they need to lose, on average 23 pounds to make that happen.
52% of American women would take a summer without sex over gaining 10 pounds; 1 in 4 American men would make the same sacrifice
Nearly 3 out of 4 Americans (73%) are willing to give up television, their cell phones or even their computers for a flat tummy during beach season
The ONE thing Americans won’t give up is their favorite foods – 46% of the country chose not to diet, even when they knew they needed to lose weight, because they didn’t want to give up their favorite foods
Only 35% of Americans fall into the “healthy lifestyle” category on the Index, by making healthy food and portion choices and by exercising regularly.
30% of Americans fall into the “unhealthy lifestyle” category and have dieted an average of 20 times in their life, using five different diet plans.
35% of Americans have dieted an average of six times in their life, using two different diet plans.
Nearly 1/3 of Americans (29%) have tried dieting over the past eleven months, and more than half of Americans (51%) have dieted within the past two years.
This new survey is part of the Nutrisystem Diet Index™, a new series of national consumer surveys tracking America’s diet behaviors, attitudes and trends throughout the year.
What do you think? Would you rather have sex or lose weight?
Spread the word … NOT the icing!
