Today is National Donut Day.   Krispy Kreme and Dunkin Donuts are giving away ‘free’ donuts, but are they really free???

National Donut Day was created by the Salvation Army in 1938 to honor American women who served donuts to soldiers who fought in World War II.  1938 was a long time ago, and while this may have been a lovely idea at the time, the obesity epidemic did not exist.

The World Health Organization (WHO) predicts that 1.5 billion people will be overweight by 2015.

Overweight and obesity are risk factors to cardiovascular disease, which is the first cause fo deaths (17 million per year).  Approximately 80% of heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and 40% of cancer could be avoided through healthy diet, regular physical activity and avoidance of tobacco use.

Before you head out to Dunkin Donuts and/or Krispy Creme to pick up your ‘free’ donut, please consider that they are NOT FREE of fat, calories, salt, sugar, oil.   And for sure, Eater’s Remorse will set in afterwards.

Just a friendly reminder from Our Lady of Weight Loss, the patron saint of permanent fat removal!
