Good day Tushkateers!

Are YOU ready? Are you ready for the full skinny on how to permanently remove those excess pounds that have been driving you crazy (actually it is your mind that has been driving you crazy – but for the sake of this sentence … we’ll pretend that the pounds are); which food plan a.k.a. diet to follow?  Are you ready to make it simple?

First, let’s ask the ‘right’ question.  Is a calorie just a calorie???  Here, a word (actually two sentences) from Marion Nestle, scientist, author of the new book “Why Calories Count”: “Fiber is special because it’s not digested or digested incompletely.  Most of the calories don’t get into the body, which is one reason why fruits and vegetables, which are high in fiber, help with weight loss.”

This, fellow Tushkateers, is why I live and ‘lose’ by these words:  Go ahead kiddo-dumplings*, fill up on fruits n’ veggies.  Chow down on enough veggies – need be – to choke a horse (simply a figure of speech – please don’t take me literally).

Fruits and vegetables are THE KEY to the food part of your journey to Sveltesville. When ‘plating’ your food, make a full half of it fruits and vegetables, plain and simple (minus the heavy sauce and/or dressing).  Seriously, the food part IS that SIMPLE!

*kiddo-dumplings – a term of endearment.  My father called me ‘kiddo-dumpling.’

Okay – NOW that you’ve got the food part of your plan covered, how about the other part?  Weight loss in it of itself will not take you the full journey.  If that is all that you are interested in, I promise you that you can lose it, but find it (again), you will!!!

It is merely the beginning, a tool to get your upward spiral in motion, to rethink belief systems, to change your mind.  Weight loss is a spiritual journey that opens the door to transformation and reinvention.   Look far beyond pounds shed.

Contemplate and Meditate on this:  Is the REWARD far greater than the SACRIFICE?  Whenever you make a change, however positive, needed and wanted, there is a sacrifice.  You are giving up a certain way of living; you are letting go of a truck-load of belief systems that no longer serve you.  You are giving up living in a space that you have grown accustomed to.   Again, even if this space, this ‘weigh’ of living is detrimental to your health and the worst possible place for you; it is a place that you are familiar with; it is comfortable.  Sacrifices are made! Change is difficult.  Therefore the REWARD must be great!  Is the REWARD far greater than the SACRIFICE?

This week’s photo (see above) is entitled, “Meditation On a Cactus.”  When in Tucson (a few weeks ago), I sat in the back courtyard and meditated on the cactus.  Well, not exactly ‘on’ it!  However, I really did s-l-o-w  d-o-w-n and look … at the spikes, in particular.  Aren’t they fabulous?!   Isn’t nature mad- crazy fabulous?!
