CUREMy email inbox overflows with links to articles and course offerings; variations on a theme: “New Year: New You.”   And I wonder, “A new and improved me? Again? What’s wrong with the old me?  Am I not…Thin enough?  Active enough?  Smart enough?  Good enough?”

The answer:  It’s not about becoming good enough.  I’m good enough!  You are good enough! It is about stripping away that which is not you.  It’s about allowing the ever-present joy to arise.  It’s about letting go of your baggage; that steamer trunk of old stuff that is not you but that you are attached to and drag with you everywhere you go.   Letting go is a far more empowering act than hanging on to, being weighed down by or defending what is not.

Don’t just improve.  Evolve!

Here 10 quotes to help you to begin to reflect and set the stage to evolve in 2014:

“Often, it’s not about becoming a new person, but becoming the person you were meant to be, and already are, but don’t know how to be.” ~ Heath L. Buckmaster

“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.” ~ Alais Nin

“We are products of our past, but we don’t have to be prisoners of it.” ~ Rick Warren

“We are not yet what we shall be, but we are growing toward it, the process is not yet finished, but it is going on, this is not the end, but it is the road. All does not yet gleam in glory, but all is being purified.” ~ Martin Luther

“My destination is no longer a place, rather a new way of seeing.” ~ Marcel Proust

“No one is ever more him/herself than when they really laugh. Their defenses are down. It’s very Zen-like, that moment. They are completely open, completely themselves when that message hits the brain and the laugh begins. That’s when new ideas can be implanted. If a new idea slips in at that moment, it has a chance to grow.” ~ George Carlin

“Sometimes we know in our bones what we really need to do, but we’re afraid to do it. Taking a chance and stepping beyond the safety of the world we’ve always known is the only way to grow, though and without risk there is no reward.” ~ Wil Wheaton

“Seek out that particular mental attribute which makes you feel most deeply and vitally alive, along with which comes the inner voice which says, ‘This is the real me,’ and when you have found that attitude, follow it.” ~ William James

“The only way that we can live, is if we grow. The only way that we can grow is if we change. The only way that we can change is if we learn. The only way we can learn is if we are exposed. And the only way that we can become exposed is if we throw ourselves out into the open. Do it. Throw yourself.” ~ C. Joybell C.

“All true artists, whether they know it or not, create from a place of no-mind, from inner stillness.” ~ Eckhart Tolle
