Dear Tushkateers (members of the Kick in the Tush Club) and devotees of Our Lady of Weight Loss, A show of hands, please! How many of us have been known to scoff down one piece of cake, beat ourselves up, feel rotten to the core, and then have yet another slice of the Devil’s food to soothe? Our fat cells multiply – our pants tighten – we feel even worse – we indulge in still another serving of forbidden food followed by the inevitable platter full of punishment.
Results? Broken zippers; broken dreams.
In terms of permanent weight removal, holding a grudge against oneself – being unforgiving for what we perceive to be horrific dietary crimes and misdemeanors – can only impede our progress.
There is absolutely no point in unleashing mammoth-sized portions of anger or the relentlessly chastising inner voice upon ourselves. Seriously Tushkateers, one slice of cake does not a fat person make.
Let the self-incriminating self-talk go. Laugh, smile and choose forgiveness.
Here, from the patron saint of permanent fat removal, none other than Our Lady of Weight Loss, three Quick Tips to Forgiveness:
- Accept yourself with all your wondrous imperfections. Embrace your humanness. Appreciate how dull life would be without our little flaws and perceived failings.
- Lighten your load. Let go of self-anger (past and present). If you don’t, you’ll be draggin’ around that much more baggage (FYI guilt, shame and anger are not strength training exercises.)
- Love thyself first and foremost. Bottom line, it all boils down to a reduction sauce of self-love, doesn’t it?
Do not let one ‘dietary transgression’ take you on a ten-year detour.
- Forgive.
- Let Go.
- Lighten Your Load.
- Love.
