“Your gain is my pain. Call me.” ~ Janice Taylor, Anti-Gravity Coach, Helping You to Rise Above and Go Beyond (self-Imposed) Limitations

Today, on this very special autumnal Kick Tush Tuesday, I’d like to share a story with you!  Not the usual blog post that you might expect from me.  I’m trying something new (shaking it up!).  I hope you like it.  And if not, that’s okay, too!  I’m happy to explore and not (too) afraid to fall flat on my face and fail.  I swear, I’m NOT!

“There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.” ~ Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist

Autumnal Hypnagogia: Touch the sun, reach for the stars, open your heart, follow your dreams!

It was a particularly crisp and sunny autumn day.  Mary set out from her secluded cabin, from where she had purposely hunkered down in silence for nearly seven days, to roam through the green and grassy trails that twisted through acres and acres of colorful woods.

In the stillness of the moment, not a soul in sight, she drank in the various autumn colors; allowing them to penetrate her very being.

She found that the autumnal oranges and reds energized, the yellow brought a smile to her face, the purples and browns gave way to philosophical thoughts and tired eyes.

And when those tired eyes became too heavy to keep open for too long, she found a grassy spot beneath a tree under which she curled up and allowed herself to drift, and drift some more, until she came to that mysterious line where you are both awake and asleep.

This borderland state is called hypnagogia.  It is a place of transition; a space that is rapt with images, symbols and words that captivate the mind as they move you from wakefulness to sleep.

Hypnagogia whispers to you as it gradually, bit by bit, lets go of or barely brushes up against your conscious mind.  It is a process much like sunset and sunrise, which darken and brighten respectively, not in a flash, but slowly and mysteriously over the span of minutes.

Mary was holding on and letting go all at once.  Holding onto the warmth of the sun, the crisp autumn air, the fall colors; as she, at the same time, became aware of a golden angel, standing fully upright, arms slightly raised from her side, palms out toward her, golden hair flowing long down, beautifully framing her face.

As not to startle Mary, the angel softly whispered, “Touch the sun. Do not be afraid. Reach for the stars. Do not be afraid. Open your heart. Do not be afraid. Follow your dreams. Do not be afraid.  The sun, the stars, your heart and your dreams cannot harm you. Touch the sun. You are safe.  Reach for the stars.  You are safe.  Open your heart.  You are safe.  Follow your dreams.  You are safe.  Go Beyond. You are safe.”

The outer autumnal world drifted into the world of sleep and the Angel’s words made their way into the world of wakefulness.  The two worlds mingled, mixed and merged until there was but one world.

Mary slowly stretched, stood and with an open heart and a lightness of being that she did know existed, she made her way back through the wood to the cabin, forever changed.
