“Keep out of reach of children under 6 years of age.  If more than used for brushing is accidentally swallowed, get medical help or contact a poison control center right away.”

Want to guess what item in your house has the above warning label adhered to it in plain sight?

According to the new book The Healthy Home by Dr. Myron Wentz and Dave Wentz, that hit the bookshelves just yesterday, “It is the required warning that appears on every tube of fluoridated toothpaste manufactured in the United States.  The FDA began requiring this warning in the late ‘90s when it became clear that small children could be seriously injured – or even killed – by fluoride poisoning.”

Ingesting fluoride toothpaste can be fatal, and yet many local governments have passed legislation requiring fluoridation of water supplies.  In addition, it can also cause damage to your teeth’s enamel.

Huh? What?  True enough!

According to the authors, it is the physical activity of brushing your teeth that actually cleans them.  So next time you go shopping for toothpaste, you might want to buy the non-fluoride brand.

For cleanest teeth – brush twice daily, floss and scrape your tongue!
