Yesterday, while perusing my Facebook account (more specifically, looking in on my kids’ pages, so I know what’s happening in their life, like – oh, like they left town and forget to tell me 🙂 …),  I noted that my beloved daughter had cooked up a delicious platter of Tilapia.

Generally speaking, I am all for fish, because it is delish, (oh that rhymes – fish/delish – I feel like Dr. Seuss) and you get twice as much bang for your calorie buck than you do with red meat (one ounce of fish is approx. 50 calories; one ounce of beef is approx. 100 calories!!!).

However, farm-raised Tilapia, one of the most popular fish in America, has very low levels of omega-3s (the beneficial kind of omegas) and it has very high levels of potentially detrimental omega-6-fatty acids.  (Source:  Dr. Andrew Weil)

Omega-6 fatty acids are pro-inflammatory.   Inflammation is known to cause damage to blood vessels, the heart, lung and joint disease, skin and the digestive tract.

Dr. Weil tells us,  “Following an anti-inflammatory diet can help counteract the chronic inflammation that is a root cause of many serious diseases, including those that become more frequent as people age. It is a way of selecting and preparing foods based on science that can help people achieve and maintain optimum health over their lifetime.

“The anti-inflammatory diet is a blueprint for a lifetime of optimum nutrition. Simple changes in how you eat can help counteract chronic inflammation, a root cause of many serious diseases, including:

* Heart disease
* Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases
* Age-related disorders, including many cancers
* Autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and lupus”

(for more information on Dr. Weil’s anti-inflammatory diet, click here!)

So – do I ‘comment’ on her Facebook page with a “NO!!! Don’t eat the Tilapia?” – which may be an ‘inflammatory remark.’  Do I call them up, just as they are about to chow down?  Or … do I wait till their dinner is over; or the next day to comment?   Cause seriously, how bad can one serving of pro-inflammatory fish be?  Or … do I Blog about it and hope they read it?

What would you do?
