Did you know that Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack stood up for public school students by proposing new regulations that require higher nutrition standards for school meals? He’s not asking for anything extreme.

Wouldn’t you say that limiting french fries, sodium, and calories and offering more fruits and vegetables in their place makes sense?  Well, the Farm Lobby: as I understand it, they want us to “Count french fries as a healthy vegetable option.”

What do you think?  Do you think that french fries are a healthy vegetable option?   I’m not against the potato, I’m just asking, “healthy vegetable option?”

Our government spends $12 billion every year on school meals!  There’s been a lot of talk about making sure that our kids are healthy and develop good habits that will last them a lifetime; good habits that they can hand down to their kids and their kids … our great grandchildren!

Remember, I’m not asking if you like french fries, or love them, or even for a recipe!  I’m not asking people to stop making them or serving them (within reason).

I’m just wondering if you think that they are a vegetable and a healthy option for our children?
