“I don’t know how she does it.” Lillianne is not talking about the best-selling book turned movie with Jessica Sarah Parker as a super-working mom. She’s talking about her sister Serena. With a touch of sibling rivalry and a touch of pride, Lillianne says,
“She is always so friggen happy— it’s annoying that’s what it is. She is high-energy, yet not hyper. She has time for everything and everyone. It doesn’t seem there’s a thing in Serena’s life that is lacking.”
Except one thing: money. Lillianne knows. She’s her sister’s accountant. While choosing a secure career path for herself, Serena took an uncertain one in the arts. She dabbles in many things creative. She’s a jewelry maker, dancer, and administrative assistant for the local theater. Only one of those is a paying gig. With insider knowledge to her sister’s finances, Lillianne doesn’t know how she does it.
“If a person gets his attitude toward money straight, it will help straighten out almost every other area in his life.”
~ Billy Graham
From early on, Serena took this quote to heart. She has strong faith that God will provide. She does her part by going to work and spending less than she earns. Her faith is a very quiet underpinning to every financial decision she makes on a daily basis. That’s how she lives with less, and no one notices.
Lillianne doesn’t realize that it’s her sister’s faith-filled attitude that brings abundant happiness. It’s a lesson we all can learn from, the next time we’re tempted to remark, “I don’t know how she does it.” Chance are, if you look a little closer you’ll know— she does it with the help of God and the right attitude.
