Sesame Street’s little red guy – the beloved Elmo, is a 6-foot tall black man named Kevin Clash. He’s worked his mojo to become rich and famous.

Kevin is a clear example of someone who has talent, used it as a child, and had no idea that he would one day be the voice of one of America’s favorite TV show puppets.

In my upcoming book “The Road to Redemption,” I talk about the importance of using what you have, to get to where you want to be. Kevin Clash did that. He took his talent, (something he did for fun) and at the opportune time, got the exposure he needed.  Clash will soon be releasing a documentary; “Being Elmo, A Puppeteer’s Journey.” He shares his passion for puppetry, and talks about his journey from being a shy kid from Baltimore to becoming Muppet’s creator Jim Henson’s protégé.

What is your God-given talent? What’s hiding inside of you, maybe something you were good at when you were a child, or something you do exceedingly well at the office? Whatever it is, work it!

Get started by letting others know that you are creative and you have a talent or skill. Someone is always watching, listening and tuning in.  You never know when your time will come to be used for your own greater good and the greater good of others.

Elmo brings happiness into so many homes. He brings joy to the child who is sick, or terminally ill. The voice of Elmo is soothing to the ears of a crying baby, and many times calms down a temper tantrum.  Elmo is a solution to a problem; he is a character that has a loving voice, energy, passion and drive.  There is a life behind the red costume, and it’s Kevins. Add some life to your own talent or skill, you owe it to the One who gave it to you.
