Our prayers are with the Polish nation today. In Warsaw, Poles are bidding farewell to President Lech Kaczynski and his wife Maria, who died in a plane crash on Saturday near the Russian city of Smolensk. 96 people, many of them key political leaders, were killed in the accident. The remains of Lech Kaczynski will lie in state in Warsaw. Thousands will pay their last respects throughout the day.

“God, we pray today for the people of Poland. We thank you for the bold, hearty, and faithful spirit of the people of this nation. It was in Poland that the first cracks in the wall of the repressive, Soviet communist regime began to appear and this happened only through their faith in your and your destiny for them. Through this faith in you, dear God, Poland has endured through many trials to move toward a promising future. Today we ask that again you will give them new hope, to move beyond their grief as a people, to renew their hope in your plans for them. We ask that you give them wisdom and courage as they head toward new elections this Fall. May they choose a leader who will guide them well, with integrity and truth, by your principles and direction. We pray too for the remaining family of the Lech and Maria Kaczynski. Comfort them with your specific presence. God bless Poland today… In Jesus…”
