nuclear Japan.jpg

Waves of fear are sweeping Japan today, compounding shock and grief following last week’s massive earthquake. The nuclear crisis at the Fukushima Dai-ichi power plant is mounting. Fuel rods appear to be overheating in three damaged reactors crippled by the massive quake. Radiation has leaked into the atmosphere and the reactors may be in the process of “meltdown.” Officials are scrambling to find ways to cool the systems, but their efforts are losing grounds. It’s time to pray… Let’s appeal to God for a miracle here, and in faith exercise the authority he’s given us to ask…

“God, heal Japan. Place your powerful hands around this nuclear plant and “calm the storm.” Cool the reactors. Where human effort fails, intervene in your grace. You have given us authority to steward creation on this planet. We borrow your words, words you spoke into the storm, “Peace, be still!” We speak in faith to these hemorrhaging reactors, “Peace, be still! Settle. Rest. Be contained. Cool.” We pray because our human efforts fall short. Our technical cleverness has set loose power we cannot manage. We turn to you in the power of your Word and Spirit. In Jesus’ name, “Peace!”
