“God, today we pray for Egypt, a nation one again in great turmoil. Save Egypt from violence and despair. You love this land, and always have, even when that love demanded your hand of discipline and judgment. Egypt along the Nile is intricately woven into the fabric of our histories together. It was your land of plenty for Jacob’s family when their promise land was gripped in famine. It was your place of refuge for Joseph when he fled there from Herod with Mary and the child Jesus. From back to the dawn of history Egypt cradled our civilizations and gave us the latitude to reach for a life beyond mere subsistence. There we first build our cities carving desert stones into monuments pointing to heaven. Those towers still inspire awe and wonder expressing for us all our buried yearning for TRUE eternal life. Ancient Egyptians went to great lengths to ignore dead as a way to say it is not the last word. That yearning was fulfilled by You, the One who had been hidden in that Land. Jesus, you lived the myths in real history when you defied Death with eternal life. Now Jesus, save Egypt. Save her from devouring herself in violence and greed and despair. Bring just and righteous leaders to her. And may the passion in her people, a passion for spiritual truth be turned to their true Eternally Living King!”
