“Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. Matthew 18:19
Mark and I are opposites in most things: we came from opposite parts of the country, we are almost opposite Myers Briggs temperaments, our churches of origin were opposite in some aspects of their theologies, he is the eldest, I am the youngest in our families, he grew up with hot and spicy foods, I with bland meat and potatoes, and the list goes on. So how can we agree about anything? For seasons of our marriage we struggled to agree on decisions; we faltered and sputtered, and our relationship stalled until we learned the power that our covenant has when we are in agreement. We found upon Whom we can agree: Jesus, His life and His Lordship, and if we make him the Leader of our lives and of our marriage, we can have an impact in the world and make the planet more like what God designed and desires it to be.
Take your spouse’s hand and AGREE in prayer:
Our Father,
You are looking for married partners who will make the effort to do the impossible: agree together…
to walk together in the same direction – towards You…towards your love and your light.
Forgive us for opposing one another, criticizing one another, nit-picky, and touchy.
Your love is not at all like this, and you have asked us – no, commanded us – to reflect your love and light.
We choose to do so today, but we can’t even try without your help.
First, forgive us and transform our minds through your Word.
Change us from the inside. And give us the joy that agreement can bring to our Covenant today.
We rejoice in all you will do!
