The Lord will keep you from all harm—
he will watch over your life;
the Lord will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore. (Psalm 121:7,8)

When our oldest child was three months old, I purchased a ticket to fly with her from the Toronto area, where we were living, to Minnesota to introduce her to my family. As the day of our departure approached, I became increasingly anxious about the flight. Flying by myself had been daunting enough, but taking my precious newborn baby 35,000 feet into the sky, was another matter altogether. The day before the scheduled trip, I announced to Mark and to the Lord that I couldn’t possibly take the journey.

I prayed, “Lord, I am too afraid to fly with my baby. I just can’t do it. I’d rather stay home. If I am to follow through with this, I will need some definite encouragement from You. You will have to do something with this fear, because I can’t get it under control on my own.”

I was sitting on our little gold hand-me-down loveseat. My Bible was conveniently next to me and my baby was in my arms. I casually opened up the Scriptures, and my eyes immediately fell on Psalm 121. “He will watch over your life.” That was my baby! At that moment, she was my life. “The Lord will watch over your coming and going.” That was round trip protective coverage from God Himself.

I got up, packed my bags, and had a wonderful time! I’ve never been afraid to fly since. I just proclaim the Lord’s promise over my life, the flight, the plane, and the crew, “The Lord will watch over my coming and going both today and every future flight I board.”

Father,
Thank you for your promise of protection. I claim it today as I travel. I know you fly with me. I thank you for your angelic protection over my life. I will heed your command to not be afraid, for You are with me. You never sleep or miss an opportunity to save me. Nothing ever catches you off guard. I take hold of your hand today, and with you by my side, I board this flight in peace and security. In fact, I will enjoy the flight, take delight in the take off, wonder at the amazing technology that allows such endeavors, and thank You for a safe, smooth landing.
Amen
